The Uninvited

by Jody Medland

A work-in-progress sharing in collaboration with PenWorksMedia, part of Landmark Theatre Ilfracombe's Welcome Weekender Festival. Written and directed by Jody Medland.

After emigrating to Australia to run a new guest house, the future looks rosy for a young couple – until an unwanted guest checks in to make them face an atrocity from their past...

The Uninvited is an original ghost story in the vein of shows such as 2:22 A Ghost Story, Blithe Spirit, and The Birthday Party.

Appearances

by Lori Hilson
Barnstaple Fringe Festival, June 2024

A sensitive and intimate play following the lives of three very different people at the height of lockdown in May 2020.

Gina, Hannah and Sid are neighbours. In the normal course of things they might not have much in common but ironically it is isolation which brings them all together.

We get to explore a moment in modern history everyone has an experience of and an opportunity to share in a story that might have happened on your street. Exploring themes of loss, empathy, desperation and endurance, Appearances offers a cathartic look at a trio of very human stories layered on top of each other.

Everyone has a story to tell but it's only when you see all of them that you get the full picture. We are seldom equipped to imagine what lies beneath the surface of the people around us. All the characters see of each other is 'appearances'.

June 28th, 29th, and 30th
At the Queens Theatre, Barnstaple

Derailed

Three plays by Sam Burns, Lori Hilson and Ute Orgassa
Summer tour, 2024

Three new comic plays about the assumptions we make about ourselves and our neighbours – and how very wrong these can be.

Can a stranger on the underground turn Brian’s life around?

What are the three neighbours hiding from each other as they clap politely for the NHS?

Will Xandra, Yates and Zebb, trapped in a comedy of misunderstandings, believe the truth about each other when they see it?

All our characters believe they know what direction their lives will take – but their fates are about to take an unexpected course. Mind the gap and come on a fantastical ride with us.
